Film Maniac (1980)
Joe Spinell, known for Taxi Driver, stars in this disturbing horror film as Frank Zito, a troubled character. He talks to himself and his deceased mother, stalks a model, and brutally murders women. The movie features graphic special effects by Tom Savini and a grim ending.
Maniac! has a relentlessly downbeat tone and a realistic scalping scene. Spinell hallucinates his victims returning to life and seeking revenge. He collaborated with Caroline Munro in The Last Horror Film in 1982. Sharon Mitchell makes a brief appearance as a nurse.
