This adaptation of William Nicholson’s play portrays the tragic love story of C.S. Lewis and a poet. Anthony Hopkins stars as C.S. “Jack” Lewis, a renowned Oxford professor and author. His solitary life changes when he meets the American poet Joy Gresham, portrayed by Debra Winger. Joy’s terminal illness brings depth to their relationship, evolving their marriage into a true love story. Shadowlands (1993) was also filmed as a British television movie in 1985.
