Renowned Palestinian Filmmaker Elia Suleiman to Receive Prestigious Award at Sarajevo Film Festival

Renowned Palestinian filmmaker Elia Suleiman is set to receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival. The festival will showcase a retrospective of his selected works in the “Tribute to” program.

Suleiman has had a longstanding relationship with the festival, having been a guest in 2019 and 2013. His film “It Must Be Heaven” received special jury mention at Cannes in 2019.

Jovan Marjanović, the festival’s director, praised Suleiman’s ability to capture universal human values and emotions in his films. His work sheds light on the complexities of existence with wit, humor, and insight.

Born in Nazareth in 1960 and having lived in various places, Suleiman has garnered numerous awards for his short and feature films. His works have been recognized at prestigious film festivals such as Cannes and Venice.

Suleiman’s contributions to cinema have been appreciated globally, with accolades such as the Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture. He continues to make significant contributions to the film industry as an artistic advisor for the Doha Film Institute.
